Rega RB250 (GBP 124.00)

The Rega arms are so well known, and respected, there's not much needed to be said. They've been manufactured, with only minor changes, for well over a decade, and have a reputation for working well with even very expensive MC cartridges, such is their rigidity, being manufactured in one piece from headshell through to bearing housing.
The RB250 is a real bargain - I don't think there's any other tonearm near the price to touch it. One of the weaknesses, though, is the lack of height adjustment. Not usually a problem on decks designed around the arm, but for difficult situations spacers between arm and deck will need to be used. The other weakness is the cheap cable provided, although in practice it still sounds excellent!

Rega RB300 (GBP 188.00)

The RB300 differs from the 250 in three main respects. The tracking weight is set by calibrated dial (using an internal spring), which is meant to be better for dealing with warps. The counterweight has been redesigned, and is a tight fit on the arm, for lower vibration. Also, the bearings are higher tolerance as compared to the 250.

Origin Live modifications

OL mods to the Rega RB arms are well known and very effective. The complete mod service involves us sending your arm to Origin Live to replace the counterweight assembly with a special ultra rigid replacement, and rewiring the entire arm with O.L. cable terminated with superior plugs. Needless to say, the arm is completely transformed! The total cost is GBP 235.00. We also normally carry from stock pre-modified RB250s and RB300s ready for immediate purchase. Cost is the arm plus the mods, so an OL RB250 is GBP 359.00, and the OL RB300 is GBP 423.00. These arms are the best value arms available at their respective price points!

Incognito rewiring kit

For those brave enough to attempt this themselves, and it is perfectly possible if you're patient, this is a good way to dramatically improve the standard budget cable fitted to the RB arms. The Incognito kit is unique in offering one piece wiring with no joins right through from the cartridge tags to the phono plugs. Cable is high quality OFC copper. Sound is immeasurably improved! These kits are very complete, and include high quality cartridge tags, practice wire, solder, a draw wire to pull the new cabling through, and full instructions. You do, however, need a fine soldering iron and some soldering experience in order to fit the cartridge tags. Price for the kit is GBP 139.00.
