Nottingham Analogue Ace
Spacedeck (GBP 1200.00 exc arm and cart)
NB: Picture still shows original Spacedeck (GBP 1020.00), not
the Ace Spacedeck

This is one hell of a good looking and sounding deck for the price. A high degree of attention to detail has gone into the design, but exactly what these details are, and the exact choice of materials used, remains something of a mystery, as the designer, Tom Fletcher, isn't exactly forthcoming on the subject! And, I don't really blame him either, as this deck is sufficiently desirable for some manufacturer in the Far East to have a go themselves!
Anyway, I can tell you that the stepped pulley motor (on it's own support platform) is very low torque; so low, in fact, that you have to give the platter a shove to get it going. Quite disconcerting at first, but entirely logical from the vibration and interference point of view.
I can also reveal that the construction is quite complex, and that the choice of materials was arrived at after a very long period of research, with particular attention to the materials interfaces. But, any good designer should pay attention to things like this. The proof is in the listening (as they don't say), and the Spacedeck is a cracker!
So, Tom is vindicated. And, we are very lucky to be stocking the thing, as Tom doesn't really like (most) shops very much. But, smooth talking Pete and Les succeeded winning him over. I impressed him with my vast knowledge of (alternative) amplifier design, and Les with his sheer charm ;-)
Come and listen to it; I'm sure you'll be as impressed as we are.
