Sumiko are our favourite pickups at affordable prices. Even though the Blue Point models are in MM (moving magnet) price territory, they are MC (moving coil) designs, with the even sound and great three dimensional soundstage you only get from an MC. And, even better, they are high output MC, which means you treat them like an MM as far as phono stage is concerned. The best of both worlds!

Blue Point No 2

Sumiko's long standing entry level design is many people's introduction to the delights of moving coil. Easy to set up, and easy to use - just use the MM setting on your phono stage. The Blue Point has about 2.5mV output, a little lower than most MMs, so you might need to up the volume slightly. Full spec here.

Blue Point Special EVO3

Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO3

One of our best ever sellers! The BPS is a body-less design, just like some of the best, most expensive pickups. The lack of body gives a very open, fast sound without colouration. If you dislike a clean, bright, fast sound, it may not be for you. If you like the approach, as we do, there's nothing to touch it for the price. Output level is 2.5mV, so an MM input is just fine. Just be careful fitting and using it, the works are a bit exposed. Like all MCs, when it's worn out or damaged, you can trade it in against a new one. Full spec here.



Blackbird

Sumiko Blackbird

The ultimate open bodied Sumiko, with boron cantilever and low mass stylus. As with the Blue Point Special, the output is 2.5mV and required loading 47kOhms, so should be used with an MM input. Full spec here.
