It's a while since we've had a new "affordable" loudspeaker to get really excited about. It's one thing to offer superb performance at a price which "breaks the bank", quite another to make absolutely top class loudspeakers at a sensible price. We currently have two models on demonstration from Marshall Choong, and both of them "punch way above their weight", with speed, seamlessness, and sounstage capability more reminiscent of the best electrostatic designs without either the bulk or the price.

Marshall Choong CM-2

A compact two way system with substantial birch ply cabinets and a whole host of innovations "under the skin". Recommended amplifier power is 50-100W and sensitivity is 90dB.

Marshall Choong CM-3 (cherry veneer)

Marshall Choong CM-3

A classic 3 way design which harks back in appearance to classic models from the 1970s and 1980s. Under the skin, though, lies very innovative technology which elevates this loudspeaker way above other models of similar size and price. There is a tactile quality to percussive sounds which is rare in conventional cone loudspeakers, and the three units are so well integrated that listening position is relatively uncritical, one of my key tests of loudspeaker quality. Add in neutrality and extreme clarity, and you have an exceptional loudspeaker with capabilities reminiscent of expensive and position fussy electrostatic designs.
