E.A.R. / Yoshino

E.A.R., Esoteric Audio Research, EAR / Yoshino, call them what you will, are one of the (relatively few, sadly) Great British Export success stories. Company head, Tim de Paravicini, has been producing valve amplifiers under the EAR name since 1977, a good track record. Tim is widely regarded as a Tube Guru, having also produced special equipment for recording studios (valve microphones, valve tape recorders etc) and he has a healthy disdain of current domestic digital standards (CD, in other words) and indeed of some pro digital standards too.
EAR products receive acclaim worldwide (particularly in the USA and the Far East) for their sound quality, build quality, and generally for their good value. They are certainly built to last and go on giving good performance for years. It is quite rare to find good sound and build in one unit, possibly a spin-off from Tim's studio work. The products below are the best sellers from the range, but the list is not exhaustive - we can also supply any EAR / Yoshino product not mentioned on this page- please enquire.
Acute CD Player

The stunning Acute brings EAR's expertise in valve design to digital reproduction leading to the most natural sounding CD player you are likely to find.

861 Power amp Superb EL519 push pull amp, 32W/ch, or 64W in mono mode. Class A, and zero overall feedback. Features switched balanced or unbalanced inputs, with level controls on the phono unbalanced inputs. Numerous awards. |
| V20 Integrated amp
The model which took the tube world by surprise. Has a very musical and enjoyable sound quality, from two banks of multiple ECC83s in parallel push pull in the output stage. Ultra wide bandwidth transfomer and no overall feedback. Choice of 4 or 8 Ohm taps giving over 20W/ch. 5 line level inputs. One of our most popular EAR amps! |
| 864B Phono preamp
Super value MM/MC + 5 line level + tape loop, inc one true balanced input. Also has true balanced and unbalanced outputs. See the insides here, and a rear panel view here. A very nice piece of kit, and another best seller. |
| 834P Normal
phono amp 834P Signature MM/MC phono amp These both sell like hot cakes! The Normal version has MM only, the Signature has MM/MC (the MC being achieved, as usual, by EAR's superb transformers, ensuring low noise and excellent sound quality). The Signature may also be ordered, at no extra cost, in a version which has an output volume control, allowing direct linking to a power amp. |
| 834P Deluxe Chrome
MM/MC phono amp
Far superior finish version (with similar internals) to cosmetically match EAR integrated and power amps. You also get much higher quality phono connectors, so lifting sound quality even slightly further over the already superb standard versions. Note that this version isn't available with an output control. |
| 834L Line level preamp
Popular no-frills (finish-wise) line pre, with 5 inputs plus tape loop. The standard of finish on the cheaper 834 components is pretty basic, by modern standards, but they are well built, to last, and sound superb, so you pays your money and takes your choice, as they say. If you want the looks, go for the deluxe versions. |
| 834L Deluxe Chrome
line preamp
Deluxe finish, and with far superior phono connectors, so sound quality taken to even higher standard. |
