If one was to conduct a survey amongst knowledgeable audiophiles about what they thought were the world's top five valve phono preamps, the Modulus 3A by Audible Illusions would almost certainly be near the top.
Certainly, some of our customers who have heard most other famous brands (it would be unfair to mention which) have walked away with a Modulus.
So, what is it that makes it so special?

We think it's a fanatical attention to detail, the finest components, the shortest, simplest, signal path, and the designer's knowledge of what real music really sounds like!
Don't take our word for it, though. I have a list in front of me of reviews and awards for the period 1983-1993, and it's staggering!
The best thing about Audible Illusions products, though, is they're not expensive (well, relatively, at least!). You could pay five times as much, and not get any better. In fact, not as good in most cases.

Brief History

Audible Illusions goes back to the dim and murky past (well, at least to the early 80's, if not earlier), when its "budget" preamp was already getting good reviews. The current head, Art Ferris, took over in 1984 and was encouraged by some of the most legendary names in audio, such as Saul Marantz, and John Curl. He turned the original Modulus design into the world leader it is today.
The Modulus 3 came along in '92, and the "a" revision in '96. As you can see, the company is not given to needless revisions and model changes!
