About Us ...

Walrus Systems started life on the web before it had a showroom, mid 1997, selling mainly accessories. The two people running Walrus, Les Wong, and myself, Peter Sanhen, were still tied up elsewhere in the hifi industry (I have been in the hifi business since 1979, Les started a few years later, 'cos he's a bit younger!). Since 1998, we have devoted our attention full time to Walrus, and acquired a proper showroom in April '98 in the heart of London's West End, just two minutes walk from Marble Arch underground station.

ShopfrontWe specialise in equipment (particularly vinyl playing, and valve amplification) which we feel is top of its class; equipment which lets you concentrate on music and hopefully forget the hardware (sonically, at least). The brands we represent are often very hard to find - some of them are from smaller manufacturers who deliberately seek out retailers able to do them proper justice - others are better known but not widely stocked because they are not understood and their true worth not realised. We also value close co-operation with the manufacturer or distributor, something which is important to our customers when it comes to sorting out problems, and this influences our decision on who we represent.

You are welcome to call in at our shop for a chat, a demonstration, or just to see what we stock. If you have a particular system in mind, please try to give us a little notice - specialist equipment needs careful setting up to get the best out of it and we need to do this in advance. Either way, you will hopefully find our attitude refreshing without the "hard sell" you so often encounter. We let you decide, with as much or as little guidance as you need from us. If we feel you're wrong about something, we'll tell you, but we won't be patronising. Your views are important to us.Inside our shop (circa 1998 - it's a bit more cluttered now!)

Please bring your own music where possible, although we do have a good selection here. Any kind you like - it's all welcome, on vinyl or CD. The best type of recording to evaluate a system is one you know well, and which is not necessarily a Special Audiophile Recording - these are not important to evaluate the true worth of a system.

Lastly, we do (of course) still offer mail order for most items we stock - that's how we started, after all!

We don't want to bore you with any more, so please feel free to e-mail us with any queries.
